Final Destination Returns… But Was It Worth the Wait?
It’s kind of wild to think about, but the last time a Final Destination movie hit theaters, I was just 20 years old—young, optimistic, and completely unaware that “The Final Destination” (yes, that was the actual title) wouldn’t actually be the final one. That was back in 2009, and while the name suggested the franchise was calling it quits, let’s be honest—anyone familiar with Hollywood knew that probably wasn’t the end. And sure enough, just two years later, we got Final Destination 5.
Fast forward 14 years, and the series is back again. When you revive a franchise after such a long break, there’s usually some pressure to shake things up a bit—to prove there’s still life (and death) in the concept. And to its credit, this latest entry does tweak the formula slightly. It’s still very much the same Final Destination you remember, just with a few small twists to keep things feeling a bit fresh. Not a reinvention, but enough to say, “Hey, we tried.”
Now, let’s talk about that opening scene—it’s a highlight. Long, imaginative, and packed with some truly gnarly kills, it delivers exactly what fans show up for. After that, the pace slows down a bit to let the story breathe (as much as a Final Destination movie ever really does), before ramping things up into the chaotic, bloody thrill ride we all came to see. And yes, the kill sequences in this one are great. Some of the best in the series, in fact.
That said, the Final Destination film on the Flixtor home page isn’t without its flaws, chief among them being the characters. It’s a recurring issue with this franchise: most of the cast is just plain unlikable. Maybe it’s by design, so you don’t get too attached before they’re creatively offed, but still… it would be nice to root for someone every once in a while. More likable characters would add emotional weight and make the deaths hit a little harder.
Still, if you're a fan of the series, this new installment delivers where it counts. It might not completely reinvent the wheel, but it spins it fast enough to keep things entertaining.
